I am an animal rescuer.
I will save lives. I will lose lives.
I will make wise decisions.I will make mistakes.
I will be surrounded by people who understand what I do and how I feel.
I will be criticized by those who do not understand.
I will rejoice when each homeless huggable finds a new forever family.
I will suffer through days when I cannot get those lost out of my mind.

A STORY OF SURVIVAL A MAMA CAT AND KITTENS

Against all odds, this Mama cat and kittens have made a journey that was difficult, and  terrifying for her, and the kittens she was protecting.  I am sure the saga starts before this, but I first knew about her, when she was discovered at a trailer park along with two kittens and taken to Murray County AC.

She and her kittens had been spray painted by some kids, that haven't been taught the value of life.  Lucky for her and the kitties, It was a type of Halloween hairspray type paint and not toxic, although one of her kittens died.  Perhaps from some abuse.  It must have been terrifying for her.

After she wound up in the shelter we immediately put out a plea for her to be rescued.  She WAS rescued and went to a wonderful foster home.  But that is not the end of the journey.

Her foster Mother Lori, took her to her vet and had her checked out.  It seems that she had a kitten still inside that had not passed from her birth canal, and they had to remove it.  Her bladder was all swollen and she was a pretty sick girl. The Dr. sent Lori home with antibiotics and they hoped for the best.   Later Lori saw that she could not hold any food down and was very sick, so off they went to the emergency vet.

This what Lori messaged me:

Final update on mama cat for the night-
She has had sub-q fluids and I.v. antibiotics from vet #2 tonight. Still has a script for the oral antibiotics from vet #1. She has to be on a stool softener to keep her from straining and damaging her insides while she recouperates from the trauma of the kitten, the impacted bowel, the uti, and the overfilled bladder (her bladder was almost to her ribcage!)
We have nutrical (I love that stuff. It works miracles) and prescription intensive care kitten food to get some weight on her and nutrients in her.
That said, the kittens are visions of health. Mama has taken excellent care of them even in her poor health. Now it is her turn to be taken care of :)

The story is hardly over but, the good news is, Mama cat and her kittens are fine!!  Now after about 3 months, we will be looking for an adoptive home.  Mama cat is languishing in the attention of a loving and caring person and I am so thankful....

  1. Oh precious Mama Kitty has been through so much! She's a very good mama who must really love her kittens, to have kept them with her and taken such good care of them. I pray they are adopted together, they would be such a wonderful family! (I love it when it works out to adopt a whole family of cats!)
I'm so sorry one kitten didn't survive.
This morning I strolled through the cemetery and was astounded to see so many headstones represented precious little babies, many only a day or days old.
They were so very precious and delicate that the Lord took them home rather than leave them to suffer in a harsh world... and leaves the hardier ones (cats and babies) to learn and share in the growth and gifts of this world. May the Lord bless you and all the rescuers, fosters, and rescued kitties!! AMEN!

  2. This mother cat gives so much of herself.
She is on a high fat/ calorie diet to keep up milk production and put some meat on her bones, and today I brought home a litter of bottle babies who were born yesterday. Mama left her two, came to the other litter, sniffed around, and then took one with her back to her nest.
I followed with the rest, and she has bathed and fed these like they are her own. I am supplementing with bottles to relieve some of her load, but this mother really, really is a special animal.
It is I who have been blessed by her, not the other way. I wish more people were like her.
